Viewing your first FlipLine

May 2024

This guide will walk you through resizing your document as well as the key elements of the FlipLine viewer.

Resizing your document

Step 1: Resize surrounding components

First, to give your document more space, try resizing the Text Changes and Heatmap components. We explain what these do below, but, for now, try resizing them by clicking and dragging the adjacent bars that have two small lines in the center. You can also double click these bars to collapse the components.

Step 2: Zoom in/out

Next, zoom in/out on the document using CTRL+ and CTRL-, Z+Scroll, or by navigating to the View > Zoom menu option in the top left. You can also scroll vertically on the document using your mouse, and you can use SHIFT+Scroll to scroll horizontally on the document.

The FlipLine viewer

There are three key elements of the FlipLine viewer:

  1. The document viewer and Text Changes component
  2. The Heatmap component
  3. The menu options in the top left

1. the document viewer

At the top of the document viewer, you will see three tabs: Old, New, and FlipLine.

These tabs allow you to navigate between the three versions of your document: the old version you uploaded, the new version you uploaded, and the FlipLine, which shows you how the document changed between versions, similar to a legal blackline but for slide decks.

Tip: Try using the left and right arrow keys to navigate between tabs and the up and down arrow keys to navigate between pages. Alternatively, use Ctrl+Shift+G, type in a page number, and hit enter.

On the FlipLine tab, note some key features outlined below:

  1. The Changes Detected flag. In the top left of each page, you will see a flag for Changes Detected, Page Inserted, Page Deleted, Page Moved, or No Changes, as relevant.
  2. Text changes in the doc. Text changes are boxed in red and numbered. The numbers correspond to the Text Changes section on the right-hand side of the FlipLine viewer.
  3. The Text Changes component. With similar notation as a legal blackline, you can see here the change is that "ARE" was added and "RELATED TO" was deleted.
  4. Visual changes. Visual changes are boxed in purple. If text is moved or bolded but unchanged, this will show up as a visual change.
  5. Change location flag. A red line will be displayed on the left hand side of the page to flag where there are changes on the page horizontally.
Tip: For more detail on FlipLine notation, including how number changes are shown on the page, please see this article.

2. the heatmap component

The Heatmap shows a chart of all of the pages in the document, showing how many changes are on each page. The red line shows the text changes, and the purple line shows the visual changes.

Tip: The number of changes on each page will be displayed as a tooltip as you hover over pages in the heatmap. Click on any page in the heatmap to navigate to it.

The dark blue line shows which page of the document you are currently viewing.

Flags for pages Moved, Deleted, or Inserted will show up as dashed lines with an arrow, X, or +, respectively.

3. More options

Click the menu buttons in the top left to see more options.

The Filter button allows you to toggle off/on certain visual and text changes throughout the document. For more information on hiding change callouts, see this article.

Note: the Download, Copy Link, and Share options can be used to share your FlipLine with others. For more information, see this article on sharing your FlipLine.
Tip: See the FlipLine shortcuts to navigate the FlipLine viewer with ease.
